WHITE FANG is a novel by American author Jack London (1876-1916) - and the name of the book's eponymous character, a wild wolfdog. First serialized in Outing magazine, it was published in 1906. The story takes place in Yukon Territory, Canada, during the 1890s Klondike Gold Rush and details White Fang's journey to domestication. It is a companion novel (and a thematic mirror) to London's best-known work, The Call of the Wild, which is about a kidnapped, domesticated dog embracing his wild ancestry to survive and thrive in the wild. Much of WHITE FANG is written from the viewpoint of the titular canine character, enabling London to explore how animals view their world and how they view humans. White Fang examines the violent world of wild animals and the equally violent world of humans. The book also explores complex themes including morality and redemption. White Fang has been adapted for the screen numerous times, including a 1991 film starring Ethan Hawke. (more on: wisehouse-classics.com)

This was one of my first enjoyable reads. I read it as a high school freshman and loved the book. I recently reread it at the age on sixty-six and found it equally fasinating. As a dog lover, I can especially appreciate the tribulations of White Fang. Highly recommended for readers of all ages!
A good story but maybe a little too much violence for young kids. If you read and enjoyed Call of the Wild this is kind of the reverse in the sense that a wild animal becomes tame. If you would like to read a dog story that is a amusing and not as graphic, I would recommend 'The Adventures of Augustus'.
This is a great book, but if you're teaching it to kids, should be exceptional and mature grade six or above. The vocabulary is high school level, at least, in parts.
Gorgeous writing and scene description. You become the wolf in this work; transferred to the stunning an icy cold, unadulterated beauty of the Canadian tundra.
Love this book. Such a classic tale of he bond between man and dog. I've read it several times over the years.
