I purchased this book for a literature class, which has been very enjoyable and informative along with this book. I appreciate the short summaries of the history surrounding the literary works in each chapter, as well as the short bios of the writers themselves. This is a THICK book, but it has a lot of good stories for you to read and learn from.

I rented this book because it was available for the cheapest price I could find. There was a lot of marks and highlighting in the book but the book still served its purpose of helping me pass African American Literature

The book was used as a textbook for a college African American Culture course which explored the culture through literature. This book was very helpful and interesting. I would recommend it as a resource.

Very good book. I got this book for a class I had to take but I learned a lot more about African American history than in history classes in school. They go into a lot more detail.

good selection of stories by the authors. would have preferred that the excerpts would have been longer in some instances

book was in fine condition did not like the class I used it for

loved this- great introduction to a variety of writers.

Lots of info, but honestly google is just as good.
