Do not waste your money or your time on this book. There are better, more complete texts available! Considering that this is the 2nd edition, I am shocked that the authors and the publisher did not make some fundamental changes. I will point out a few issues that I have with this publication.1. Chapter 44 is titled "Anxiety;" however, the main discussion is about PTSD, which is not the same as common anxiety. Moreover, there is a chart listing medications used to treat PTSD, but there is no mention of any medications specifically used for treating anxiety (e.g., benzos).2. The chapter on "Asthma in Adolescents and Adults" has no list of medications used for treating asthma! It does contain several charts, which are clearly copies of common handouts that patients are often given (e.g., Asthma Action Plan). Why would any author write a chapter on the clinical guidelines for asthma and not include a list of the common medications (not just the classes of medications) that are used to manage such a common disease process?3. In the section on "Common Adult Presentations," there is no chapter on guidelines for the management of dyslipidemia; however, there is a chapter on "Abscess Assessment and Management." Am I missing something here? I cannot think of a more common adult presentation than dyslipidemia. The authors and the publisher missed the boat on this one!4. I will not even begin to evaluate the section on "Common Pediatric Presentations." However, I do not think the authors or the publisher truly understand what the word "common" means!In general, this book gets a C-. I will say that the chapters on OB/GYN are fair and the SOAP format is somewhat useful. Otherwise, this text is not worth purchasing.
