I have three different signing books now and this one by far has the best pictures and descriptions. The pictures are big because there are only a few per page. Granted, other books may include signs for more words, but their pictures aren't as good and this book has most of the baby-level words I'm looking for.
The writing in this book is terrible, it just rambles on and on with no real direction. I'm seriously considering cutting out the pages and just keeping the picture dictionary portion. The dictionary takes up about half the book and is really clear and useful.
Super easy to read even though the book part is rather repetitive. But the second half of the book is a picture dictionary of signs to use, almost anything you would need to teach your baby for communication before they can really verbalize. Very nice and very encouraging. If you're interested in teaching your baby or toddler some sign language for whatever reason, then I recommend this book.
Great book for getting into signing. Very well written and easy to follow. It has just enough that you can skim or go into more depth. It has a lot of signs in the back that you will probably never use… so I wish it were organized with the most useful 10-15 signs in an easy to access area of the book.
I could not put this book down.Pro: explains all the benefits, outlines your child's development, gives you a step-by-step process (with modifications, depending on the age of your child when you start), suggests games, songs and usages of signing to reinforce your efforts, the dictionary is organized by concepts and provide a picture and explanation of each sign.Check out her Youtube channel.
Not the book to buy if you are just looking for signs....a lot of reading and history of signing before you get to the actual signs themselves.
This was such wonderful text and introduction into baby sign language. I really appreciated the intro with the history of ASL and information about linguistic maturational development. The diagrams for each sign where very clear and very useful. I would absolutely reccommend to a friend interested in learning baby sign or trying to help their baby find new ways to communicate.
My daughter is teaching our younger boys signs- way more than I have the patience to sit down and do! We got quite a few books from the library and this is by far her favorite. Nice and simple, clear signs, alphabetical. Very easy to find some of the most common words for little ones. We also enjoyed the songs section and have picked up quite a few signs from signing songs together.
