So as far as big honkin' size world atlases go, this one is the best I've seen. That's because I'm just an average user who wants to find the country I'm looking for, get info on it and go back to my studies. My kids are the same. If you are looking for a specific country, it is easy to find it using the index which also lists gps coordinates for those of you who like to geek out on things like that :) This is totally subjective because everyone's needs are different and what may be overkill for me may be too little for you...but this atlas does contain a lot of extraneous information (for our needs). However, what is there is good. We just needed a world atlas for studying world history and current world events and this one was the one I chose after doing my usual research. I'm deducting stars because the binding isn't as good as it needs to be for a book of this size and weight. That matters a lot when you have a book that will not be able to be shelved properly due to it's size. When purchasing new, it gets shipped to you in a plastic pack, but the packing has to be very careful to avoid damaging the fragile spine during shipping. took care of us and sent us a new one when our first one arrived damaged. Also, the corners bend easily. I'm going to fix this issue by adding some decorative duck-tape to the spine, tucking it inside the binding on the ends. Inside, lots of beautiful photos and great information with a good layout. Easy to find what I'm looking for. I appreciate the tidbits of info and when we really dig into it this coming school year, I'm sure I won't be sorry I dropped the money on this resource. Right now, I'm hopeful my book-devouring kids will not tear it up so it can last through the years. A book like this is an investment. I hope the publishers will put a little better care into assuring the binding and cover is more sturdy for future editions.

My son loves maps and this is his new favorite. Better detail than most atlases I have seen lately. Also it seems to have less mistakes -- and it gets a pretty careful review.
More topographical than I was expecting. I was looking more for traditional maps where cities can easily be seen. Don't need to see such detail of mountain ranges
I bought this atlas several years ago because I like to look at maps wen I read a book. Since I speak English, I find it difficult to read the names and places in this atlas since they're all in the language of the country your looking at. The worst thing about this atlas is the topography. The colors are so dark that it's almost impossible to read anything unless it's in a flat green area. (That's assuming you can read all the languages in the world). I should have checked it out at Barnes & Noble first!
This is a beautiful very large atlas. The photos are fabulous and the details could not be better. It has wonderful and informative maps, details of major cities and so much more than I could have asked for in a beautiful displayable book.
