Positives:-informative-easy to understand-great glossary in the back in case you don't understand a vocabulary wordNegatives:-the outline of the chapters take awhile to get used to (they organize things by: anatomy, then problems, then the nursing process instead of by subject matter)-sometimes they give way too much information on a topic so the chapters are really long and can get boring
This has been a fantastic book for my nursing classes. It's very good at explaining how the body and everything that goes with it works. I have learned so much from this book. And it is actually interesting!
This is the dumbest nursing book. I got my LPN a few years back. Those text books were more organized. They had bullets that summarize the chapter. This book has no objectives or summary for each chapter. It's FULL of unnecessary STORIES and redundant material that are just FILLER. They just wanted to make this book as long as possible so they could get more money
I don't have any negatives about the book itself. BUT I ordered the textbook and received the study guide. I am hoping this is just a mistake and the textbook will actually come instead of the study guide that I did order that is not scheduled to arrive until the 20th. Fundamentals of Nursing
I was required to purchase this book for my nursing fundamentals class. I think this was a great book and it definitely gave me a great foundation for nursing. I appreciated the detail that went into the book especially when it came to the nursing process. It was clear and gave me a good breakdown of the information.
I have read the book. I have pages missing 1174 to 1194. I have been in surgery 19 years in 5 states and some of the information is not accurate or it is missing. I think this book has the bare necessities for taking the NCLEX. As I have heard from other recent grads that schooling is now all self-taught via online ATI testing and self-reading. The instructors do not even seem to cover the material in the book. I was taught in Old School nursing styles and the MDs were Earthly Gods to not be questioned. Personally, this is not the best way to learn for me. Glad I have a foundation that has the patient as the center and foundation of why I am doing what I am doing. Today's world dictates to what insurance companies will pay for. This book is what most nursing programs use where I live. So you cannot pass without it. Glad my library of books have more valuable books in real treatment of humans, that really help.
Using as an assigned textbook for my 1st semester nursing program. Like it so far... wish there were some chapter summaries and that the index were a little better. Sometimes it's hard to find things in pinch. There are Kaplan style questions, real - life scenarios, and QSEN examples which makes the book easier to read and relate to. I'd refer to it even if it weren't assigned.I did rent the book. It came with an access code.
Nice book, I needed this book for school. I have the edition before this. Chapters are slightly different. In this book I noticed one chapter was a little shorter then the previous edition. Other then that I haven't noticed much difference in the two. Would recommend, gives some reasoning to why they do it a certain way.
