However, I've enjoyed the three book currently released and understand another is on the way.In this episode, Alec and company have returned. Mallory left at the end of the last episode with a one-year-to-live curse weighing heavily on both her and Alec's minds. Alec has just experienced his first (in memory) magical flash, and, after Mallory drives away, finds himself so sapped of energy that he collapses on his front lawn, in the rain. And that's where Felicity, having decided to return to the U.S. afterall, finds him.Once recovered, his only case is Amy Cantrell's request to investigate the Clara church where her mother and 12 others were murdered. But before he can get much of a handle on that case, her father appears in his office, surprisingly asking for Alec's help in a cold case file, the disappearance of a woman some three years past. She disappeared at the lake nearby to the Clara church and Alec immediately wonders if there is some connection. Also, someone is breaking into his office and his home but all that is stolen is a grimoire of black magic rituals. What's the connection? Are these seemingly unrelated incidents actually related? Alec and Felicity are on the job.The writing continues to be well plotted and well paced, with a nice mix of action and interpersonal relationships. Well edited and proofed, with, I believe only one noted slip up. I did, however, struggle with how to rate this one. There was a problem, having to do with Alec and his cronies not being able to figure out who might be the 12 knights for sacrifice when it seemed pretty transparent to this reader.
