Absolutely terrible book. Unfortunately this was the required reading in medical school. Don't really understand how this got any good reviews. Terrible editing, extremely long and yet missing so much information (student books half the length manage to include double the information). Countless mistakes, both minor typos and more fundamental errors, for example, terms like sensitivity and specificity are sometimes mixed up. Lack of pictures where they are very much needed - for example, there is a whole discussion of fetal heart monitors without even one picture of what they look like! The pictures that are present are completely incomprehensible. For example, when describing the anatomy in urinary incontinence, there is a useless hieroglyphic instead of a real diagram, with a textual description that is equally incomprehensible. Index is incomplete and not useful. Very short discussion about fertility treatments and ART (just an example). Every chapter is written by different authors, and it seems no one is actually keeping track of all of it - sometimes the chapters completely contradict each other. Extremely limited discussion of patient management!!! (e.g. - if neural tube defect is detected, what is the management? prognosis? anything? no mention.) Uses the generic template (e.g. Background, Clinical Features, Diagnosis, Management, etc.) where it is totally inappropriate. Overall the worst book I have had to use in medical school. There is no appropriate target audience. Not useful as a reference, missing too much (i can never find an answer to any specific question). Not useful as a study/review book, too long. Not useful as an introductory book, since the explanations are so terrible that they can only be understood by someone who already knows the material.
