I haven't been able to bring myself to finish this one. While I really enjoyed the first two, I can't get myself to read more than half of The Path of the Storm. The beginning felt very rushed, as if the author had a certain point in mind that he just wanted to get to. The whole thing (up to the point I reached anyway) seemed very narrative (is that the right word?). There wasn't much of anything to bring you into the character's heads and emotions; just a lot of "he went here, she did this, this is what happened." Even the dialogue comes off this way. I'm disappointed because I've enjoyed the world and the characters up until now. This one just got too boring for me to even care about finishing -- and not for lack of adventure for the characters. There's plenty of that. What lost me is how removed I feel from the story from only reading WHAT the characters are doing and nothing about how they're feeling or growing or changing. I don't feel the struggle along with them; in fact the further I got into it the more I just didn't care what happens next. I guess the flaw is in character development. Everyone seems very flat.

I read a lot of fantasy. I am a kindle junkie and I often use kindle recommendations to read new authors. Thanks to , I discovered this series and I have been very pleased. The author does a great a job juggling the stories of his characters and maintaining the readers suspense at an acceptable level. Every installment so far finishes on a great note, but he leaves the reader hungry for the next book. After reading fantasy books for 30 years, the genre becomes somewhat predictable. Maxwell's world is new and fresh. The characters are genuine, and it's easy to relate to them. I do not write many reviews, but I depend on the reviews of others to guide me to my next new series, author, etc... For the price, this is an easy choice. I highly recommend this series to anyone that's looking for a new twist in the world of fantasy.Thank You James Maxwell, for a great story. Thank You for a great recommendation. I just downloaded book 4, so I am going to read some more.Get the books. You will be glad you did.

I cannot recommend this series enough! All three books are an absolutely fantastic read and I can only hope for more books in the series. Definitely take the time to read Enchantress, The Hidden Relic and finally The Path of the Storm. All three books easily pull you into the story lines of the multiple characters. I can only describe the books as an epic adventure and I highly recommend reading all three.

One of the highest compliments I can give about this series is I have enjoyed each book more than the one before it. That is a rarity. I believe that the author had a plan and is executing it very well.A shocking amount of plot threads were resolved in book 2. What starts here was properly set up and doesn't feel like starting over. The stakes are very high this time around.Another compliment I would like to pay is to the main character Ella. She has truly won me over. One of the best main characters from any series I have read. Her story this time out is the best part of the book. Her quest takes her into frightening but always entertaining corners of the map.Speaking of the Map. It really opens up this time. The feeling of Epic shines through.I really don't have any complaints with this book. If I did they must have been minor enough for me to have forgotten them already.

The overall plot to these is great and I love them in concept- but the writing isn't great. It drove me nuts in the first book but the end was so good I continued to the second. The second was great much more developed and it was fantastic all around. This one though had all the same issue I had with the first one. Its the unrealistic chronological events that string unrealistic action scenes one after another. Literally I believe Miro and Amber get captured what four times directly in a row in this book, each time barely managing to get away and they make some friends who die immediately. Gets repetitive.Example of action in some scenes being painfully unrealistic- minor insignificant spoiler alert- they get captured by the mutineers and Miro jumps ship. He cuts the ship from mooring and it immediately drifts into a coral reef that happened to be nearby and bad guys are all immediately conveniently eaten by sharks. What? He also tries to hard with cliffhangers non-stop which gets annoying.Last annoyance, Ella's attitude at the end is completely at odds with her motivation the entire book- now she doesn't have time for anyone???But at least it stays action packed and I am hooked to the overall plot. The fantasy world is well constructed and the magic concept is legit. I am going straight to the next book to see what happens.

I didn't know anything about this author James Maxwell and was unsure if I even wanted to start a short series but as I previewed the first book "The Enchantress", I decided to try it. The character build up was great and captured my interest which eventually led me to "Path of the Storm". By this time I can hardly put the books down. I believe the war was rushed through or cut short to keep the story flowing and found it awesome how the substance used to create lore resembles crude oil. The story races along with very few slow downs as the characters learn more and more about the Evermen and their Lore legacy. As Ella learns and combines some of the other lore from around the Empire it really starts to get interesting. This series could easily have been stretched out into 6 books because at times there is just too much evil intent to process as questions are answered. All in all a big thumbs up to author James Maxwell and I recommend reading this series for some great entertainment.
