Farewell to faux pas!South Korea is one of the greatest economic success stories of the past 60 years, and more and more Westerners are traveling to this bustling, modern country for business and pleasure. But no matter why you visit, an understanding of Korea's etiquette and culture is essential to an enjoyable and successful trip. With Etiquette Guide to Korea, you'll never need to worry about making an embarrassing mistake—this authoritative guide covers everything the courteous traveler needs to know, including the importance of names and how to use them, shaking hands versus bowing, table manners for celebrations and everyday meals, and how to negotiate in Korea. Known as "the Hermit Kingdom" until the final decades of the ninteenth century because it kept its doors closed to the outside world, Korea wasn't exposed to international influences until the mid–twentieth century. Perhaps this is why may of the traditional aspects of Korea's culture have been preserved in spite of the explosion of modernity in recent times. Today Korea's age–old culture has combined with the ultramodern Western ways and conveniences to transform the country into one of the world's most popular destinations. Also included are invaluable lists of Korean vocabulary and helpful phrases, making this book the most important item you can pack for your trip or extended stay in Korea.

This little book is only 128 pages long but is a terrific guide to etiquette for those visiting Korea whether for business or pleasure. It also would be worthwhile for those dealing with the Korean communities here in the U.S.A glance at 's listing of this author's books suggests the high level of knowledge and ability to communicate embodied in this little book.It is fun to read, fascinating, and surprisingly complete. On top of that, it has a phrasebook section with phonic spellings that is excellent and it has a brief selected vocabulary that I find very useful as an introduction to Korean. Easy to use with a nice format and good index, this book is a must have for travelers to Korea and those interested in an informed glimpse of Korean culture.

Included useful introductory insight across a wide range of issues and situations, including brief historical and cultural context, useful for approaching and understanding business and other interactions.

This will be a gift for a friend who is about to move to Korea (her husband is in the Army) and it will be a great start to learning how to live in Korea. I flipped through the book and it seemed very informative, without being very dry. Great book!

This is a good first step for Westerns to East cultural. Korean cultural has many elements of Chinese and Japanese culture, and many of them are very similar. This book helped me a lot during my trip to Korea. As an employee of a Korean company, helped me also to understand the culture and values of ir. Worth each dollar paid
