I picked up this book because I have a problem with conversations. I have difficulty talking to people if I don't know them very well. That's one problem, but the real reason I read this book was my other problem: thinking of things to say with people I do know. Larry King (the king of talking) addresses the first problem, but not the second. He gives tips and techniques about how to talk to strangers and how to speak in a business setting. This advice is valuable. There were tips that I found useful, but as a whole, this book did not address what I needed.Fortunately, this was an interesting book to read as King gives examples and illustrations from his own life and career. He explains things clearly and if I would have been reading this to help me converse with strangers, there would have been more value in reading this book. If you are thinking about reading this book for being able to converse with strangers, I would give this book a try. If you are looking at it for my reason, skip it and try something else.
I was hoping to learn "how to talk to anyone, anytime, anywhere" but the book doesn't tell you much about it. Rather, the book talks about Larry himself, his rise and fall... I was so disappointed. I read the book half-way and quit as I don't want to waste my time on it. I guess his show would be better but I'd never watch that anyway. If you are looking for learning something from this book, don't buy this unless you expected to read a bibiography of Larry King.
I felt like I was reading an autobiography about Larry King's rise from obscurity to fame. That's all well and good, but please don't Camouflage the true nature of this book behind a title promoting "how - to". With any book, however, there is the occasional tidbit that you can use.
This is a book about how to do interview and things like that. Larry King is world reknown and i m quite dissapointed to see his books. His real strength is the ability to ask question that is sharp and timely, plus his wide knowledge of any subjects. But the book did not show much nor will it trains you in anyway toward those things. Tanadi Santoso. 12/97.
This book is enternaining in places, but not particularly helpful in my opinion. Larry King is a master of the bold, rapid-fire question type of interview. In this book, though, he talks about celebrities like himself, with whom he is on first name terms. That's fine for him, but there's not much here that I can use.
This book is a good time killer. You don't have to read it straight on through because there are different sections to it. It took me about 3 weeks to read this book.In 'How to Talk to Anyone, Anytime, Anywhere, author, Larry King, tells us his secrets to good communication. Although he does share some good advice, it's mostly what we already know. Some of the things he talks about, such as: body language, eye contact, listening,etc., is something we are already aware of; we just forget to use them.This book didn't so much as provide me with a lot of new information, but it reminded me of the important things i have forgotten. Not only that, it gave me confidence to improve in areas I know that I am not good at.
This book provides some good tips, but they are not particularly insightful. Larry King treats his readers as extremely shy ppl or those who cannot even strike a conversation with a stranger. I think anyeone with average social skills would already know most of the things mentioned in his book.On the other hand, I highly recommend Dale Carnegie's how to win friends and influence ppl. Definitely more insightful.
I agree with some of the reviewers below that Larry has talked much (perhaps too much) about himself in his little book. Yet, it's still good to learn from the life of a guy who is famous for his way to talk, right? Sure there are better books in this area, but Larry was still worth his salt in this little book
