I have been buying the Nursing Drug Handbook for many many years and I am very unhappy with the format of this year's book. What I liked about the older versions was you could go to a chapter i.e.: Antidepressants and look through the entire class of drugs alphabetized. This book is all drug classes alphabetized by generic name, now if I'm not aware of say a newly approved antidepressant it will take me a VERY LONG time to discover it and having to look up every drug by knowing it's generic name is not user friendly. The material is great but the format change is horrible. I would not recommend this book and if the current format remains I will pass on the book in the future. Drugs listed in chapter, classification format was sooo much better. Also in the past my book has included a cd or a code to access drug info on-line so I could print out info for my patients, this book did not and when I went to NDHnow.com....I couldn't access info because I had no access code in my book.
The Nursing Drug Handbook of 2013 is a must for anyone suffering from medical issues. It is a great tool for family and friends as well. This is a comprehensive report about prescription medication. It gives the reader detailed information not usually provided by the prescribing physician. The information will include such things as why the prescription is usually written, what the medicine actually does, possible side effects and drug interaction issues and an explanation of how long it takes to reach its maximum usefulness in the average person.
I have been purchasing this particular drug handbook annually, for many years. Is this the first year that the meds are alphabetized?? It used to always be that there were separate categories for groups of like medications, which makes so much more sense for the nursing field. I would much prefer the way it was....
I am a medical professional and have purchased these drug books for years. When I purchase a new one, I give my older copy to friends and family who aren't medical professionals because they are easy to understand and are a very helpful guide. We must take more responsible for our own health with all the changes in health care and insurance. This book goes a long way in helping one to understand the medications being taken, interactions between meds, and much, much more.
I've been disabled for 11 years (RN for 30 years), and I don't really need the most updated version of this handbook that I've gotten since the mid 1980s. This was a great bargain to get used (in great condition), and gives me a pretty updated handbook. I used to get every version, every year- which was sort of excessive. Now with the internet, I can look up most stuff- but still like a hardcopy version.
I have been using this drug manual for years. The new format is not user friendly. It's extremely tedious to use on the kindle as there are no reference pages. There is an index for drugs by name, but no way to easily get to that drug. You have to scan through all the pages until you get to that drug. I'm an RN, no time for that. Very disappointed!
I rely on the Nursing Drug books from year to year and have for more than 2 decades. They are by far the most practical as far as nursing implications of drugs and give all necessary information one might need that is found in the PDR in a more user friendly format.
excellent book reasonably priced. But the shipping of the book needs to be better .My book was received with all the corners and edges crushed .I am very particular about my books I want them crisp and without crushed edges. I would have to consider another vendor for this item in the future
