This Is Ridiculous This Is Amazing: Parenthood In 71 Lists
Available To Downloads

Jason Good delivers a laugh-out-loud reminder that everything is easier and more fun when approached with a sense of humor--especially parenting. Each list captures a perfect (or perfectly terrible) aspect of parenthood while wholeheartedly embracing every moment: "You Deserve a Break" offers ideas for downtime, such as giving blood and untangling cords, while "Self-Help from a Three-Year-Old" collects such wisdom as "If you fall down, stay down. Someone will pick you up eventually." Sweet, sincere, and oh-so-true, this is the ideal gift for parents who could use a laugh. And isn't that every single one of them?

In the process of going from blog to book, I’ve seen so many writers ditch the raw nerve and conversational tone that made people fall in love with their magnificently brilliant thought vomit in the first place. Not Jason Good. In list after list he consistently manages to be authentic and laugh out funny without being bitter or obvious. I couldn’t pick a favorite list or even my top ten, because they were all brilliant, perfect, hilarious and so relatable. I’d would say that Jason was the perfect man, but that would be a lie, because he freely admitted to unapologetically leaving his ear-wax crusted Q-tips out for his wife to find, and that…well, that’s just effing disgusting. What is NOT a lie is saying this: “This is Ridiculous. This is Amazing,” is hands down, the best humor book about family life I have ever read.Nikki Knepper - Author of Moms Who Drink And Swear

I'm always up for a good laugh. I don't often get those laughs from books I read, but occasionally it can happen. When I was offered a review copy of this book, I took it in hopes that it would offer me a few good laughs, and it did. The book isn't fantastic, but it certainly isn't dull, and there are plenty of things in the book that all parents will be able to relate to.Like the title says, this is a book of lists, as such, it is pretty concise and you could probably sit and read the whole thing from cover to cover in about an hour. As such, I view this book as more of a "bathroom reader" sort of book. By that I mean that it's a book that you can pick up, open to any page, read for a few minutes, get a few chuckles from, and then put down after completing a few short chapters. In order to help you get a better grasp on what you'll expect to find in this book, I'll give you a partial list from one of the chapters entitled "Car Talk," which gives a list of things that kids like to argue about in the car when the trip is longer than three minutes:1. Whether we're going fast or slow.2. Where we're going.3. Why we're going there.4. When we're going to be there.5. Who gets which car seat.6. Who owns the strip of fabric between their car seats.7. Who can kick the chair in front of them the hardest.8. Why the windows won't go all the way down in the back seat.9. Whether the windows should be up or down.10. Why Daddy is so quiet. If you found this list funny, then it's likely you'd enjoy most of this book. If you didn't find this list funny, then you should take a pass on this book. In my opinion, the book is a tad pricey for what it is. Also, I'm of the opinion that this book might make for a better gift than something one would purchase for themselves. It is what it is, and I liked it fine.

This is truly a funny book. It's very sarcastic and does use some profanity, but nothing that most parents are thinking in their heads anyway. There are 71 lists, broken into 6 categories. They're short, but so very funny! For instance, the list titled When Listening is Impossible, about witty responses to kids who talk constantly, in the other room, led me to great comebacks that have totally confused my two boys."Mom, can I come out of my room now?""No, I don't have the right kind of batteries."--silence.....I sat down and read the whole book, laughing at the things lots of us think but are afraid to admit!

The format in lists is perfect for busy moms or dads because you can get a quick laugh and I got plenty of laughs. My husband never, ever reads parenting books but I found myself handing over the book and he was laughing too. It is the type of laughing in recognition that you're going through the same thing. This book is brilliant.

A great book...filled with mostly humorous observations and thoughts, this book stands out to me in that it sets out to be funny, and it actually succeeds. Now, not every person is going to think that all the jokes are funny - I certainly didn't think so. But overall, this is a great book that's really funny (or maybe "it's funny because it's true" kind of deal) that is easy and fun to read.My only regret is reading it a day after having surgery - laughing caused a lot of pain, but man at least it shows that it's a funny rather than "cute" book, so for me, this book is top notch!Highly recommended!

Oh my gosh - so ridiculously funny!!! Although I got it for my husband for Father's Day, we enjoyed reading it together. So many things hit close to home. I mean with four boys, that was bound to happen, right? We highly recommend this laugh out loud fun book.

I have been reading Jason Good's blog for years. I almost feel like I know his family! As a travel nanny. I meet many types of parents and all of them could use a good chuckle in the midst of the chaos that is called parenthood. I have on a regular basis posted and shared his comments on my Facebook page. I was delighted to see he had finally gotten around to writing a book.It is a book you don't have to read straight through in one sitting to enjoy it. I mean, honestly, who has time for that while raising kids?! I have read it straight through but also have reread certain chapters so I could share with my parents who needed to know they are not alone when their children do outrageous things. In fact, if you are raising kids this should be given at your first baby shower! I know that it is a book I now give to my newborn clients.Yes, the book evokes one chuckle after another and occasionally even a laugh out loud moment. What I think readers will get out of this is a chance to laugh and share the joys and yes, nightmare moments of child rearing. Jason makes us feel it is all normal and lets his misadventures tie us into the bond of parenting. This is a book you won't just read and put back on the bookshelf. You will reread it from time to time or bring it out when your friends with children come to visit to just share a good round of laughter and a start up conversation where everyone wants to tell their jewels of child rearing adventures. It is definitely a conversation starter!I rarely do book reviews but decided this book was worth commenting and sharing. It is going to be a classic among books "all parents should read". I know I will be handing this out as a gift to my clients with children. Thanks Jason for continuing to entertain us and looking forward to the 72-125 list!
