Available To Downloads

Donald Trump’s success in the 2016 presidential campaign has flummoxed political observers. But this book, collecting revised and updated essays from the Washington Post’s "Monkey Cage” blog, demonstrates just how much we can understand about Trump's candidacy—the people who support him, the news coverage he's received, his place within the Republican Party, and his positions on issues. Drawing on the lessons of political science and fresh data from this election cycle, this anthology illuminates many facets of the Trump phenomenon. All sales of this book go to benefit The Monkey Cage, a site about political science and politics.

For people who are interested in understanding this race, this is a great work. Rather than giving the reader an author's best educated guess, the contributors provide references (often hyperlinked) to the academic literature to back up their arguments and conclusions. The reader can choose to stay at the level of blog reader or can go deeper into trying to understand the analysis. The format also means that each "chapter" chapter is a relatively short, well-written, but very accessible inquiry into one or two points or questions. Can't beat it for the price.

I read most of the essays in this book when they were first published on the Monkey Cage. I'm glad to see them in this handy anthology, it should be a great resource for students of politics, and those just generally interested in getting some perspective on this crazy election year.

Nice compilation of observations from astute experts.

Mediocre. This is what happens when marketing values, instead of theoretical questions, drives academic research.

This "book" is about as illuminating as the Trump campaign itself. Which is to say a dim, 40 watt light bulb on its last few flickers. This book could have been much shorter. Chapter 1, the GOP created the environment with their hatred of President Obama. Chapter 2 The low-information mouth breathing crowd ate up the red meat. Chapter 3, the monster has escaped the lab. The End. (bonus chapter) The Monster loses in a landslide, the people rejoice.
