The Planters Of The Commonwealth. A Study Of The Emigrants And Emigration In Colonial Times To Which Are Added Lists Of Passengers To Boston And To ... Their Settlement In Massachusetts, 1620-1640
Available To Downloads

Scrupulous in every detail, this work contains the names of 3,600 passengers on the ninety-six ships which brought them to New England between 1620 and 1640. Working with the same records employed by Savage, Drake, and Hotten, and with records unknown or inaccessible to them, Colonel Banks here pulls the several classes of records together to form the most complete and authoritative collection of passenger lists for the period ever published. In addition to the names of passengers and ships, places of origin, and places of residence in America, the book includes indexes to surnames, ships, English parishes, and New England towns.

Anyone doing research into family histories in New England must have a copy of this book for foundational fact-finding. Through this book, I was able to link my ancestor to the New World, the ship he rode in, and the year he arrived in the New World. For years I had searched online, and not found this information.

I had found an ancestor arriving in Plymouth between 1620 and 1630 on ancestory.com and purchased the book in hopes of confirming that he was part of the Plymouth colony. The way the book was laid out made it easy to determine if he had been one of the early founding fathers. Not only did I find him, but was able to find the date he arrived (early 1624), the name of his ship and his wife , children and even that his wife was carrying their 5th child. There was further information outlining education, personal character and relevant personal information about the man in question. I was very pleased. It would have been even better if there had been a little more information available about the children and his wife, details about what happened to him when he left the Plymouth Colony as well as more details as to why he left, but it was great to find out what I did since it happened so long ago.. It was exciting to discover that my family's history in this country dates to the Plymouth Colony confirmed by this book!

Very good and very helpful! My wife has used this book to research her family's heritage.Banks does a great job depicting the period and gives great insight of what it may have been likefor the early settlers travel to the new world. It provides the names of the immigrants and the name of the ships on which they arrived. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to verify information in a ancestors search or to learn more about the first settlers. Banks is very knowledgeable and I look forward to reading more of his material in the future. The book arrived in great condition.

I Love it and use it all the time to verify ancestry research -- it really helps to see the entire "record" of our earliest immigrants

The book is great, the cost is outrageous. It is a small, thin book. Granted, it has very valuable information for genealogists, but come on...$28.00??The Planters of the Commonwealth. Returned. VERY disappointed in the book for the price! My ancestors passenger ship was listed but had a number for passengers and no names. I was looking for a book that documented their voyage. So disappointed considering the description indicated the book being more thorough.

Excellent. I'm big into genealogy, and have almost 9,000 people on my Ancestry Tree. My great grandparents XX came over from England in 1635 to the Massachusetts Bay Settlement aboard the "Good Ship James". They are in there, as I have them on the Tree! Great addition to my library. Great confirmation of my personal research.

The book is filled with information that is very helpful with my genealogy research. Recommend it to others doing research.
