Need to know when a specific county was founded? What publication are available in regard to military records for a state? What years a state took a special census? Look no further - this book will tell you.This book is full tons of valuable facts regarding every county in the United States, as well as tips for obtaining records. The book is well organized by state, county and record type, making it easy to find exactly what you're looking for. Instead of purchasing multiple books for each state, it's all published in one volume.And yes, as the previous review stated, there are some editing errors throughout the book. I'm not sure if it's limited to the Kindle edition or not, but more time and effort could have been spent on editing and formatting this book (yes, Genealogy is spelled wrong at least once). In the end, however, these are cosmetic issues and should not prevent anyone from purchasing this highly valuable resource for their genealogy collection.
I just received this as a gift, and I'm shocked at how sloppily this was put together. I've never seen as many typos in ANY book, let alone a "reference" book, as I've seen in this one. A simple spell check program should have been used. I've seen "trepositories" for "repositories" and even "genalogy" for "genealogy"! When a book can't even spell its subject correctly, I'm doubtful of all other information it contains.
Maybe I will find this is more useful as I move further into the research. I have found more info targeted to my family questions on-line, but then my family did not scatter throughout all 50 states. Mostly, they are concentrated in 2 states on the east coast, so this book, while extensive, did not help me that much.For me, it cost more than it's worth.
Needed some fresh information for apparent brick wall we have encountered on our mail line. Has many sources we haven't seen before. Would recommend this book to anybody. Wish we had found it before.
Gives all the information you need to know to contact, not only vital record agencies, but also historical research centers throughout the United States. I will be using this book a lot in my work.
It is just that, a source book, but it looks like a compilation of brochures (probably advertisements that they have printed in their magazine) for a lot of businesses made into a book. You could find most of this info on the internet with a little work. Its not what I was expecting.
This book is very informative and a MUST have for anyone into genealogy. Great reference book to have in your library!
