The Last Bastion Of Civilization: Japan 2041, A Scenario Analysis
Available To Downloads

The Last Bastion of Civilization is a scenario analysis in the form of a series of letters and essays from various intellectuals and leading figures written in 2041. Extrapolating from present day events, it chronicles the rise of Japan as the leading superpower of the world by examining relevant economic, cultural, and technological advancements. Coupled with the rise of Japan is the fall of Western society in the wake of massive riots, depressions, and an overall decline in the quality of life. Widespread unemployment, rising illegitimacy, and moral and spiritual decline have led the formerly great United States into a period of extreme mob-driven violence. Europe meets a similar fate, coupled with a decline in the euro and the defaulting of banks. As a work of speculative fiction, The Last Bastion of Civilization offers a critically insightful look at a possible future, a future that will not seem far off from the truth.

Through a fictionalized set of essays and letters from political figures and intellectuals, we see the fall of other world leading countries and the surprising rise of Japan as the new stable and progressive super nation. Everything Japan was mocked for by other nations (traditional family structure, homogenous population, low birth rates) became some of their strongest assets. Their technical and intellectual prowess, though highly respected today, still remains underrated, incalculable, and unpredictable. As a nation, they are much more capable then we think they are and they know that. The Hitachi TeraPower technology is a good example. “The Hitachi TeraPower was a technology that few outside understood, other than that they wanted it.” The “they” stands in for the other big nations such as America and China. They see Japan create something formidable and groundbreaking, but instead of asking themselves “How can we top that?” they ask the original creators “Can I have yours?”While China is busy doing their best to imitate their neighbors in progressive technological and economical advancements, such as knockoff Hoshibots, America is dealing with exponential unemployment rates, ultra violence, non-homogenous, culturally fractured population and the emasculation of the male population. Yes, men have lost much of their valuable, God-given testosterone due to our chemically-altered food supply: meat and dairy plugged with hormones and antibiotics, genetically modified produce saturated in harmful pesticides, and questionable preservatives and additives in packaged goods. This section of the book stood out most for me because I’m very much against our current agricultural system: Factory farms, genetically altered produce/crops, environmental distress.
