Operation Flight Nurse: Real-Life Medical Emergencies
Available To Downloads

Life-Flight-Teams are called to transport those in need of critical medical care to an institution capable of managing their condition. On occasion, life-altering events can be prevented from ever occurring, or measures may be taken by both patients and medical providers to reduce the impact these events have. This book was written for two reasons, to enlighten those curious about the flight-nurse profession and to share some take home lessons from these medical emergencies with the public, nurses, and EMS providers. The author is an acute care nurse practitioner for the Cleveland Metro Life Flight Team. After being asked frequently about his career as a life-flight nurse, David Kaniecki decided to answer this question by sharing his more memorable experiences as a life-flight nurse, linking each story to a teachable event. In his book, he describes many of his exciting adventures of critical care transport with various emergent disease processes. For those unfamiliar to critical care, he helps explain these diseases in an easy to understand format prior to sharing his story. David believes the greatest teaching methods are through real life experiences. After each story, he shares key lessons that can be taken away from these events.

I love this book. I have been collecting books about the real life of nurses in their chosen fields and this was another great addition to my books. I love to read and I love nursing, so this is a great combination of both.

Fantastic book that I can closely relate to in my professional work as an Advanced Practice Critical Care Transport Paramedic in south eastern Michigan. Stories of triumph and defeat. I recommend this book to my new trainee paramedics. It gets them critically thinking about situations they may not have encountered yet on various approaches. Nicely written sir!

Operation Flight nurse provides the reader with a realistic look in the roles and responsibilities of the flight nurse. This book also provides the reader with key points and lessons learned from the flight nurse point of view. The writer explains each transport situation and its challenges, along with how the situations were managed. The transport of complicated and complex medical emergencies is the main focus, often times involving the transport of patients from small community hospital to tertiary care center. I would recommend this book to any reader with an interest in flight nursing or emergency transport.

I had just finished reading Trauma Junkie by Janet Hudson, and at first I was disappointed in this book because it lacked the excitement and drama. After I had read a few scenarios however, I began to get interested. There was a lot of good information clearly presented and I found it very useful to read. Even after 25 years as an ICU and ER nurse I learned a couple of new things. I will read both books again.

I loved this book. I just finished my first semester of nursing school. This book a kinda like reading a bunch of case studies. The author does a really good job explaining what's going on, what equipment they used and so forth. He even gave advise on things to remember when treating these particular patients. He also give tips of signs and symptoms to look for to educate the general public about their health. Great read. I finished this book in a few days. I simply couldn't put it down.

As a nursing student I would highly recommend this book. The author goes into detail and explains the medical jargon and happenings. I like the cases he chose to write about as well as the format of the chapters.

David Kaniecki's Operation Flight Nurse is an inspirational read for nurses and laymen alike. David displays the full picture of thirteen case studies, from the initial call to the final outcome at the receiving hospital. He deftly explains in everyday language what he and his partner are thinking as they treat the patients. Cases include many medical situations, such as serious heart conditions, stroke, and complications of diabetes. Each chapter ends with take home points with one educational section for nurses and EMS providers, and an additional section for the public with potentially lifesaving information. As an EMT and nursing student, I highly recommend this book to anyone working, or hoping to work in a critical care environment.

This book is so great! I am a pre-nursing student trying to figure out what type of nursing I would be interested in and this book gives such great detail and really breaks down concepts I have not learned yet. Also has amazing pictures to go along with what is being written. Simply amazing book would recommend it for anyone interested in nursing! This book makes me want to be a flight nurse :)
