The information appears a bit dated. Hardly any pictures (no diagrams) and printing was on cheap paper. While I commend the author for his intent to impart information and teaching (no doubt without much funding) the book doesn't measure up to the new IV books available.
A helpful read to build confidence as you become comfortable with venipuncture. After multiple failures I was really beginning to psych myself out with IV starts. Reading through this offered a couple points I hadn't thought about, and helped bolster confidence as I continued trying to improve my success rate. Truthfully, there is no substitute for practice. No book will suddenly make you great at starting IVs. Only constant practice can make you better at IVs. That said, there are many ways to build confidence in your approach to venipuncture which can make you better at it more quickly. I do think reading this book was helpful in that regard.
As a new RN starting out in CCU, I found this book extremely helpful in teaching the technique to get the IV the first time. I have had some difficulty with hand placement being a lefty but the tips in this book have worked regardless of my hand usage.
This miht be good for someone trying to teach themselves to start IVs independently of formal training. Unthrilling and basic in the extreme. Might be a good reference for new students in nursing or EMS programs.
As a part time paramedic I don't do a lot of iv's. This book has a lot useful information and tips to all of us that do I've therapy. Well worth the money.
Received this book and couldn't put it down. This book is very customer friendly. the author did a excellent job in writing this book and explaining things that are very important. this book is good for beginners and seasoned healthcare professionals.
The author of this is truly an expert at starting IVs. He was the one to call when IV therapy could not start a line. He does know what he is talking about in this respect!I read this with the mindset of both a bedside practitioner and a teacher of nursing students. It is a quick read with many helpful tips and tricks; some that I have forgotten over the years. It is organized and will be a useful reference for students learning this very crucial skill for patient care.
Techniques used by author were helpful and very detailed. I did applied most of them and I can say it did improve my ratio and confidence as I read through it. So, I can recommend this book for anyone that is struggling with their cannulation techniques as it makes a lot of emphasis on "the little things" that at least I was missing on.
