I have read both books now. I wasn't thoroughly impressed. This isn't saying I didn't enjoy reading them. Give me a book and I will find a way to enjoy it. I am of course not a super critic. I just feel the book needed a little more. The characters at times seemed a little hollow and too cliche. I love me a great zombie novel/story, it is just really hard to write something fresh in a genre that is supersaturated. This had typical cookie cutter moments that you would expect from any zombie tale. Now, to counter what I just said. It seems that those cookie cutter moments are almost impossible to escape. A question I asked myself. Was it cinematic in my mind. I can honestly give that a thumbs up. But just because it was cinematic doesn't mean the whole mind film was enjoyable. I wish that some parts had been fleshed out and others stripped of said flesh. There seemed to be some personal extreme bias that leaked into the story and it turned me off. Almost a uneducated view of things. I feel that a good way to truly make something villainous you first must make the reader hate the subject of villainy then a slow sense of understanding why it is the way it is. Next when a reader is just starting to feel for villain make them hate them all again, This kind of lacked that.On to a new subject. The idea of a new type of pathology to contracting a zombie disease was very creative and pulled from an interesting corner of biology. At times I loved the tension and then I almost felt it was repetitive like it was a song on loop. The killing of characters was shallow and took away from the worth of characters. Making them more 2D than real. Also, trying to make the character innocent but a hard case at the same time was a huge contradiction.
