I looked at the overview of the reviews on this book and 4.5 stars are nothing to sneeze at! Fooled again. As others have mentioned, this story is repetitive in its telling and dragged on. How many times must we hear about the family, the family bar, the secret room, the family legacy, all of the policemen in the family, the fact that everyone knows who Mac is, blah, blah, blah. Add that to the cop cliche formula, the politically ambitious D.A./Mayor/insert character here, obligatory push back from a politician, supervisor or powerful jackass from some quarter and we're off to the races. Even with all of this, if done right, it could have been a decent novel. It is a formula for a reason. But then there was the editing.What I remember about grammar can be shared in one sentence. I still dangle a participle, I use a grammar checking software and I still make mistakes, I like to blame it on age. However, there is no excuse, NONE, for the misspelled and misused words that riddle this book. It wasn't here and there, it was everywhere! I have read in other forums that there is a process in formatting a book for e-readers, however I am certain that spell check is part of that format. Even without the words that can slip by, stripped for striped, for example, there are too many errors here. For those of you that will complain about me or others being nit picky, so be it. Spelling is important. Grammar is important. LANGUAGE is important. A person talented enough to write a book should be talented enough, proud enough to ensure that his work is the best it can be.
