This is Andrew Peterson's first book?? Man, it's an impressive read! A lot of times, I'm told that I'd like a book because the hero is a lot like Jack Reacher, my favorite literary character. So far, in the past, the main character is nothing like Reacher. Now let me introduce you do Nathan McBride, who is cut from the same cloth Jack Reacher is from. Honestly, that's a very high praise. If you know who Jack Reacher is, then you know what kind of guy McBride is. A nice guy with a heart of gold, who'd do anything for you. However, like Reacher, McBride will snuff out a life when he's pushed to far. In First to Kill, McBride is pushed to far, way to far and pushes back.It seems that three brothers have a highly dangerous explosive and isn't afraid to use it. In an act to save a sniper/swat team, McBride and his partner, Harvey take out one of the brothers with a single shot. McBride is an ex-sniper who never misses, and he didn't miss one of the brothers. Then one of the brother's wants revenge. He wants revenge on McBride, but also the government, but why would the brothers want revenge on the government? Ah, that's one of the great many plot twists in First to Kill, and this book has a lot of them that will keep the reader hooked to the very last page and left with wanting more.McBride has an interesting past. I can't say what that is because I don't want to spoil anything for the reader. Alls I'll say is that it gives an great depth to Nathan McBride. All of the characters seem life like and jump off the page at the reader.Peterson has the ability to keep the reader glued to every page through great characters, a fantastic plot with many twists, and keeping everything believable, and having the plot move at a wonderful pace. Not to fast, and not to slow.
