This book covers so much more than just how to tie a few knots. It also explains good uses for the knots as well as the history of the knot. The book is also very helpful by telling you if they are easy to untie, permanent, or safe for heavy loads. Just what I needed to learn what knot to use for what I was doing. Worth every penny.

This is the best book I have seen to learn to tie knots. Excellent brief explanations with clear easy to follow illustrations. It even has the knots grouped in logical applications. I purchased this for my 8 year old grandson, it's perfect for him and anyone who wants to learn knots.

One of the better ones out there, covering many aspects from the beginning basics to giving lessons in knot tying. Diagrams are superior to many, but a very few are confusing. However, with some experimentation even the obscure ones turn out to be correct and useful. No where as encyclopedic as Ashley, but a much more convenient size. Most beginners should be able to handle the presentation and there is even room for experts to learn something.

Very comprehensive, learned and memorized a lot of the knots from this book. All of the important ones seem to be here. I'm knot an expert but I haven't heard of a knot yet that I haven't found in this book. I have the Kindle version by the way and it is very well formated for my paperwhite.

Happy (9)boy! He's picked it up on his own and has knots all over the house. We have not sat with him yet to help and he's sure he doesn't need it. Some have tested his patience but he's worked it out.

I just wanted to have a knowledge of some basic knots to use for outdoors, tying down stuff in the truck, and general usage. This book gave me just what I was looking for, and more. After learning the knots I wanted, I found myself having fun with it and wanting to learn more. And I am finding it all in this book.Is it better or worse than other knot books out there? I don't know. The illustrations and descriptions have worked for me, although a couple of times I had to figure out the last part of a knot on my own... The only other negative I have found is that sometimes you get information on how a particular knot is used: its strengths and weaknesses, things to watch out for, etc. But, sometimes you don't get any of that. Not enough of a negative to take a star away though: so far any lingering questions have been readily answered with a quick web search.

the book was detailed and simple to read. i would recommend to a friend. son is in the scouts and has started using it daily.

The Everything Knots Book by Randy Penn is a welcome addition to my knot-tying library. In its 270+ pages, the author covers a majority of essential knots as well as history & perspective, different kinds of rope, and rope care & storage. This book even addresses how to teach knot tying and where to go to learn more about this fascinating subject. This information in this reference book is well organized so one chapter lays a proper foundation for the following chapter. It is an easy to moderate read with mostly clear diagrams for learning how to tie knots. Highly recommended.
