This book was a waste of my money. The questions are just ok, but the answers with rationales are terrible. Most of the time it doesn't even make sense! Some of the answers are incorrect. I was using this as an adjunct to the ONS Core Curriculum and the Core Curriculum study guide because it has an online webpage where you can answer questions instead of thumbing through pages. Forget it - use the Core Curriculum study guide for Q & A test practice. This book isn't helpful at all IMO - it's more confusing since the answers and rationals don't make sense most of the time.
It was a good book but I wish it had more explanation of the rationales. I did not alway understand why my answer was the wrong answer. I also noticed that questions related to venous access devices were outdated, not based on evidence based practices to manage these central lines
I've read other reviews that aren't big fans of the questions...and I will agree there are a few duds. However overall I find this model to be perfect for studying. The online question bank that you can select what topics you want. AND the ability to make practice tests is phenomenal! The questions are a great review and the online component is PRICELESS. I use this to teach and recommend it to my participants and they have loved (and passed the OCN!) the book.
The best part about this book is that it comes with some online test review questions... something other than reading. The questions are the same as the ones in the book, though and there is little to no explanation of why things are correct or incorrect. That's frustrating. I've also come across some questions and answers that are just wrong. It was a book given to me by my job so I can't complain but I wouldn't buy it myself.
I like it because I can do practice questions online but I'm finding a lot of answers that are wrong unfortunately. Some of the questions are worded really confusing too. I hope this doesn't mess me up on the exam :-/
