I have found that this is an excellent tool for vocabulary building. I am able to understand the meaning immediatly and hope to continue buying dual language books for this reason.
The five-star reviews you see posted above are clearly for the SOFTCOVER addition of this book, which I purchased from Japan. For that edition, five stars are well-deserved; as a handheld printed volume it is highly recommended.Sadly, the Kindle edition, at least as I downloaded it, is a complete flop as a Dual Text book. I tried every available text layout setting on the Kindle Apps on both my iPad and iMac, and all I ever got was paperback-page-lingth chunks of Spanish text followed by paperback-page-lingth chunks of English text, making textual comparison a frustratingly time-consuming pursuit. Nice folks at Dover, but this REALLY needs redoing to qualify to appear in the Kindle Store. There IS a pricey Kindle version alternative ($20 for both Part I and Part II) with five-star functionality, though I cannot speak to the quality of the translation:ingenioso hidalgo Ingenious Gentleman ebookI really like the "Doppletext" option to toggle between interlinear bilingual text and the original language text, and I hope they publish more offerings in various bilingual combinations.
Good font/type size, Easy to read, Great (accurate) translation....not sure how else one can review a book.Don Quixote is a classic, and is a fun book to read for intermediate-level spanish learners. Some good humor and beautiful turns of phrase in here...see how many of the original jokes you can understand without cheating and glancing at the English page on the side.
I found it hard to follow in the kindle version. That said, Don Quixote is one of the world's greatest humorous novels. My husband, a professor of literature, puts Cervantes on a level with Shakespeare.
A very enjoyable read that has me laughing many time throughout. Also is written in a time when knowledge of the experience of knights was still very familiar, and this has a lot in it that tells what it was like to be a knight in the middle ages; even though Quixote's adventures are absurd. I like that it has the original Spanish that Cervantes wrote in. One thing that makes this work one of the greatest works of literature is that there is a lot in the main character that is modeled from Cervantes himself, the fact that both were avid readers captivated by stories of knights and fairy tales, and that we can see Cervantes through his character doesn't take himself seriously; and the absurdity of the character himself Quixote rather taking himself seriously.
As one can expect, this is not the complete book, but just a selection of the most remarkable chapters. And a great one. It comes with a pretty good translation in English which will help not just the English-speaker trying to read El Quijote, but also the Spanish-speaker who is not familiar with old Spanish.
