Available To Downloads

Physiological Systems in Insects discusses the roles of molecular biology, neuroendocrinology, biochemistry, and genetics in our understanding of insects. All chapters in the new edition are updated, with major revisions to those covering swiftly evolving areas like endocrine, developmental, behavioral, and nervous systems. The new edition includes the latest details from the literature on hormone receptors, behavioral genetics, insect genomics, neural integration, and much more. Organized according to insect physiological functions, this book is fully updated with the latest and foundational research that has influenced understanding of the patterns and processes of insects and is a valuable addition to the collection of any researcher or student working with insects. There are about 10 quintillion insects in the world divided into more than one million known species, and some scientists believe there may be more than 30 million species. As the largest living group on earth, insects can provide us with insight into adaptation, evolution, and survival. The internationally respected third edition of Marc Klowden's standard reference for entomologists and researchers and textbook for insect physiology courses provides the most comprehensive analysis of the systems that make insects important contributors to our environment.Third edition has been updated with new information in almost every chapter and new figuresIncludes an extensive up-to-date bibliography in each chapter Provides a glossary of common entomological and physiological terms

Klowden has crafted a book that is very reader-friendly for learning the complexities of insect physiology. Current molecular biology is woven into traditional insect physiology. Everything is carefully explained. The many charts/diagrams are very helpful. This is not casual reading, but is good reading for a person wanting to learn about insect physiology. I highly recommend it!

Scientific writing (other than for news media accessible to the public) is often accused of being stiff and boring, and probably to most students lacking in a good narrative. I'm happy to report that Marc Klowden's is an excellent narrative writer about a topic that can be quite dense. I noticed this high quality of writing in edition 2 of his book and it continues in edition 3. I started teaching graduate level insect physiology using his edition 2 but then in the next round decided to try the revision by multiple author's of Chapman's famous text, Insects Structure & Function. I went back to Klowden because I think it presents a highly focused narrative in one voice as opposed to the "all over the place" feeling I got from reading Chapman. Marc Klowden has retired now, but I hope he continues writing. I recommend this text for any biology program needing an insect physiology text.

This book is amazing! Very powerful read on topics relating to complexities in cell signaling to insect metabolic systems. This book is filled from front to back with interdisciplinary concepts of entomology, organic chemistry, insect physiology, molecular & cellular biology, and much more.If your up to the challenge, and want to expand your mind to enhance your knowledge of entomology, this is the book you need! This author and his team compiled this amazing work of art and literature that I will definitely keep in my collection.Thank You Marc Klowden!

Decent text book, love the cover.
