‘Minerva was the Roman goddess of warriors and wisdom. William McGonagall is celebrated as the worst poet in British history. There was something irresistible to me about his name, and the idea that such a brilliant woman might be a distant relative of the buffoonish McGonagall.’ – J.K. RowlingPottermore Presents is a collection of J.K. Rowling’s writing from the Pottermore archives: short reads originally featured on pottermore.com with some exclusive new additions. These eBooks, with writing curated by Pottermore, will take you beyond the Harry Potter stories as J.K. Rowling reveals her inspiration, intricate details of characters’ lives and surprises from the wizarding world. These stories of heroism, hardship and dangerous hobbies profile two of the Harry Potter stories’ most courageous and iconic characters: Minerva McGonagall and Remus Lupin. J.K. Rowling also gives us a peek behind the closed curtains of Sybill Trelawney’s life, and you’ll encounter the reckless, magical-beast-loving Silvanus Kettleburn along the way.

If you're a Harry Potter fan like I am (or maybe even less than the completely obsessive one like me!), you'll love Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship, and Dangerous Hobbies. While it is short (by far the only negative!), it does provide some great backstory to the wizarding world! You start off with McGonagall, progress to Lupin, the Trelawney, and then Kettleburn (Hagrid's COMC predecessor). McGonagall and Lupin's stories are the most flushed out, as you would expect. These two are much more a part of Harry's story. However it is nice to hear snippets of information from all different areas. Again, though, this is short. It only took about an hour and a half for me to read it (with interruptions!), so it's a little disappointing in that aspect. When these were announced I was really hoping for something of much more length. The biggest plus for me is that you can hear JKR's voice so clearly through the entire thing. It's nothing like Cursed Child. This book (and I'm hoping the other two!) just ooze Rowling's writing style, creativity, attention to detail, and love of the wizarding world. This is so refreshing after CC. I cannot wait to read the other two! I will say that some of this information has been available either on Pottermore (which I don't get to that often) or from other interviews, but it's nice to have it all together and on my kindle. My biggest hope for this is that they'll put these into print, either compiled together or with added information so I can add it to my HP collection!

I enjoyed reading histories of Minerva McGonagall, Remus Lupine and Sybill Trelawney and learning more about their backgrounds and in Lupine's case, affliction. This novella kept my attention and I found myself wishing it was longer. I'm sure J. K. Rowling has many more tales that never made it to the Harry Potter books, and I hope she continues publishing them.

The book was great, although almost everything in this book is also on Pottermore. I would get this book if you don't like searching for things, but I would just look for it on Pottermore if you don't like spending money. If your looking for it on Pottermore look for Minerva McGonagall, Remus Lupin, Sybill Trelawney, professor kettleburn, anamagi, werewolves, and naming seers. Click on the ones that say by jk Rowling.

Alright. I love The Wizarding World. Love. In fact, I'm watching The Order of the Phoenix right now. Crookshanks just ate the ear-on-a-string.That being said, I was disappointed with the new Pottermore books, mainly because it is just a reprint of writings that have been or are on Pottermore. For free. Now they cost $3. I know JK isn't hurting for money, so I assume they were just published to make money for the publisher. Now, for the meat of the review. If you love the Wizarding World and want to know all that you can, these books are amazing. The backstories for the characters, places and things in the WW are amazing. The books are an easy read, but full of otherwise unknown information. You'll love reading them as a compliment to the series.

As others have said, this is all material that is available on the Pottermore site. That was no secret, and I don't get why people seem to have been expecting that this was going to be new material. I like that it was made available in ebook form because not everyone wants to go digging around on the website to find all this. It's put together very nicely and handy in an ebook. It's also fun to have all this background information on characters that were not given this time in the original books. What I did not like was the price.. even knowing these were short books, they were just a little "too" short for $3. I bought this one but won't bother with the others.

It was such a pleasure to read about the life of Minerva McGonagall and Remus Lupin. It's a different perspective and entails an increased appreciation for their existence in the story. Lupin's story made me tear up and it was really sad if you put yourself in his shoes. It was also cool to read about Kettleburn and how he had the heart to fight for what is right despite his disabilities. I wish J. K. Rowling will write more short stories about the people involved in the Potter books. Or maybe a spin off. These are really awesome.

I enjoyed getting a quick glimpse into a few key characters from the HP series whom we have not gotten to learn much about before. I will admit I teared up at the end of Lupin's story, when reminded of his death in the Battle of Hogwarts. Definitely would recommend to any HP fan.

If you are a Potter-maniac, you'll find these stories give you great background into beloved characters such as Minerva McGonagall and the drifty Professor Sibyl Trelawny. The source of character names is provided by the author in postscripts. The story of Lupin was perhaps the most touching of all, but still...I found the writing flat and dull. Rowling's great gift for storytelling is lacking here. The bones are here, but the flesh and blood are missing.I love the Potter books tremendously, but these stories are rather like reading the various Wiki's created about favorite people in the Wizarding World. Good background, but not satisfying as fiction. If you are a nut for Potter books, however, you'll enjoy it. I found it lacking
