Great book. I am a perinatal nurse and I wanted to review before taking my NCC exam. This book has everything you need to know all in one book. Very thorough.
Yes, this book refers to a number of studies. But if you like a text with a sound basis in evidence based care, this is the text for you.
I bought this book as a reference for the RNC because it was recommended. I think I am getting a lot of good information from it, but it's kind of driving me insane at the same time.Setting aside the fact that it repeats itself quite a bit and uses a lot of statistics that are also redundant, I feel like this book was not very well edited at all. I have come across several examples (per chapter!) of misspelled words, wrong tenses, confusing phrasing, incomplete sentences, offset type, etc. I also found that, although I'm sure this wasn't written just for the RNC test, there are several topics the ncc website suggested to review, which are also pretty basic perinatal issues, which are either not covered, poorly covered or maybe just badly indexed. Like GBS, for one. Or HSV.I'm almost amused by how many typos I have found. Or I would have been, had it not started to happen in the test section of the book which I'm trying to use to gauge how well I understand the information!Anyway, I'm planning to keep using it but I think I will look for some supplemental reading material before I take the test.
This is THE book I wish I would have owned when I started Labor & Delivery nursing 5 years ago.Very informative.
I've been a nurse for four years with three years of L&D/antenatal experience. I decided to take the RNC-OB exam and bought this book to brush up on my knowledge. I read about 5 chapters and just couldn't take it any longer. There's way too much theory and not enough technical information. The material was hard to grasp and even harder to learn/memorize. I turned to a friend who had recently passed her RNC board and she suggested: Intrapartum Management Modules: A Perinatal Education Program (Martin, Intrapartum Management Modules) I would also suggest reading another reference regarding neonatal knowledge and taking a few practice exams.
overall it was good. for the OBRNC exam i only read the whole book and another problem book it helped but in some part it was't satisfied me in something in rational wise.just i hope that when the publisher have another addition just more elaborate in theory for everything. it is gonna be really helpful for nurses to accumulate knowledge.
I prepared for the RNC-MNN exam using this book. Very detailed and easy-to-read. The chapter questions in the back of the book were very helpful to me.
I ordered this book to help me review for the CCRN certification. Very thorough material, presented in order from prenatal through postpartum.
