As a nursing instructor I highly recommend this book to my students. Nursing students have very little spare time to spend sorting through a textbook looking for "important" information. This book takes all of the guesswork out of reading the text. My suggestion is to read your textbook but study from this book and then refer to the text for further clarification if neccessary.
I would definitely recommend all of the "reviews and rationales" books. As a nursing student, I find this is a great resource book that highlights the important things. It takes a lot of time to read a textbook and I don't usually get much from it. This book composes the information in lists and also includes some helpful tables as well as things that are important to know for NCLEX. My favorite thing is the disc that comes with the book. There are approximately 45 questions divided into 3 tests for each chapter that of course gives a score and the rationale for the answer. This book is very helpful to me and I think that you would find it a useful resource as well. Hope this helps!
I am a senior nursing student working towards my BSN. This book helped me out a great deal. Sometimes textbooks go on and on about certain topics instead of giving you the basics (getting to the point). This book breaks pediatric nursing down to the science. It gives you the information without all the unnecessary mumbo-jumbo. This book is a great aid when reading your text or during lecture. I received a B (88%) out of my pediatric nursing course just from studing this book 90% of the time. Quiet as kept, a lot of nursing professors take their information and exam questions from reference books. Trust me, its well worth the purchase!!
I got this book to review some things for NCLEX and it is EXCELLENT. It is well -organized into the systems of the body and also labs and physical assessment and then presents each issue in an outline format which is easy to read and gives you the important information that you will need to focus on for testing or just to refresh your knowledge. It also give Priority Nursing Diagnosis and what to do a focused assessment on. It was highly recommended by my advisor to some students. I am planning to purchase some of the other Reviews & Rationale books after I finish this one.
Bought this book for my pediatric rotation in nursing school.Wish there were more NCLEX style questions to review. There is a ton of extra info on all topics but a little too overwhelming to utilize.
This book saved me during my Maternity & Child Rotation in nursing school. I think my professor used this book as a reference especially the NCLEX style questions. I found the chapter on congenital cardiac problems especially helpful because it was easy to understand with nice pictures. I also loved the growth & development chapter which clearly outlined all the Erickson & Piaget theories. There are 15 chapters in this book covering all the different body systems. I love how this book gets right to the point giving you the information that you need to know without all the extra fluff found in a text book. On the CD there are 10 pre-test, 10 post-test, and 30 extra NCLEX questions per chapter( that's 50 NCLEX questions per chapter). I don't love how the CD is laid out but the questions are very good. Overall this is an excellent reference and study aid for pediatrics.
I used this book to study for the CPN (Certified Pediatric Nurse) exam. I have been a peds nurse for two years in both the hospital and community setting, and this book is excellent at providing concise, useful information broken down by system, as well as nclex style practice questions and full rationales for each question. The CD rom has the 20 pre- and post- test questions from each chapter, as well as an additional 30 questions per topic. While it is not exhaustive of every pediatric condition, it is an excellent aid and reviews basic and vital information.
This book is a life saver!!! I raised my grade 5 points with this book and that's a lot for nursing school! I also used this book to study for the NLN pediatric state test and I scored 8 points above the national average, when my school was below the national average. It really helps you learn the material, instead of just memorize, and it tells you everything you need to know about nursing care, patho and key terms. If I had this book at the beginning I would have received an A in pediatrics. The first book I bought was NCLEX-RN pediatric nursing made easy and that did not help me at all in my pediatrics course.
