This third edition of Pediatric Radiology―a volume in The Requisites in Radiology series―covers everything from basic principles of interpreting diagnostic imaging studies through cutting-edge techniques. Expert authors Johan G. Blickman, MD, PhD and Patrick D. Barnes, MD are now joined by Bruce R. Parker, MD to provide the latest advances in pediatric radiology in a convenient, quick-access format with high-quality images. This edition features a greater emphasis on differential diagnosis, neuron functional imaging, and coverage of the dynamic topic of cardiac MR. You’ll have everything you need to succeed in radiology examinations, subspecialty rotations, and clinical practice.Provides comprehensive yet concise coverage of the core material fundamental to this subspecialty for learning and quick reference.Presents material in a logical anatomic sequence, organized by organ system with eight chapters covering an overview of pediatric imaging, chest, heart, gastrointestinal tract, accessory organs of digestion, genitourinary tract, the skeletal system, and neuroimaging.Features a multi-modality approach to provide you with the most common imaging approaches tailored to each organ system.Emphasizes that pediatric diagnosis is a distinct specialty, as opposed to an aberration from standard adult diagnosis.Includes tables, boxes, pearls, key concepts, and differential diagnosis throughout the text to make key material accessible and easy to reference.Presents expanded coverage―by more than 20%―on the basics of interpreting diagnostic imaging studies of infants and children so you get an even more comprehensive guide that still maintains its concise format. Reflects the advances and changes in the field through extensive updates to many of the images and all the chapters, tables, boxes, FAQs, and Pearls & Pitfalls. Provides new insights from additional co-author Bruce R. Parker, MD―a respected authority in the field―for new approaches to the material. Features an increased emphasis on neuron functional imaging to highlight the recent developments in this area. This is one of the Requisite series that is not up to par. The book is too brief and this really shows when reading the text, which is abrupt to the extreme. This makes for a very tedious read, and you often have to reread the same paragraph multiple times to figure out the point. There is also a noticable paucity of pictures (big no-no in radiology), and the illustrations provided are of poor quality. I recommend you physically pick up this book and browse thru it before plunking down your hard-earned cash. Addition to review: I recommend checking out Donnelly's Fundamentals of Pediatric Radiology. It's smaller and cheaper, well-written, and much better in terms of content and practical facts for pediatric radiology.

I recently completed my Radiology residency training and intended to use this book to teach our new residents about Pediatric Radiology. I found it to be poorly edited and difficult to read. The author's first language is most likely not English, and I seriously question whether the editor actually read the text. Many words are used in the text that I was taught to never use by more than one chest radiologist - e.g., the word "infiltrate" is used multiple times. In addition, many of the images are very poor examples of the pathology described. Sloppy editing: e.g., Fig 2-54 describes 3 images with a "right" upper lobe lesion that is clearly in the LEFT lung. On some pages, four images are labeled in clockwise direction A-B-C-D, and on other pages in the same chapter four images are labeled in clockwise direction A-C-B-D. I returned the book after struggling to get through the first two chapters (although maybe the following chapters are better?)

As I complete my radiology residency nothing has been more instrumental than the Requisites Series. I consider the collection of books as essential reading for radiology residents.
