I ordered this Workbook & text for my 5th grade son's home school curriculum & I could not be happier. The text is clear, easy to read, & just a touch more complicated than the 4th grade edition, which is perfect. The worksheets move along exactly with the text and seem to (thus far) contain relevant information. My science-crazy 10 year old loves this book. A great workbook simply for review as well.
I found myself in a last minute Science emergency where I had to Home School my 5th grade daughter for Science (long weird story). Anyway I bought the Harcourt 5th Grade Science textbook on Ebay and got the workbook to match from . I have been very pleased with the workbook. It goes great with the textbook and has lots of extra experiments and worksheets. Everything is broken down into one page exercises meant to reinforce what is being talked about in the textbook. The experiments are easy to perform and most of the items are easy to find and inexpensive. I would definitely recommend this workbook if you have the textbook.
This is a good book to add to the Science book, however, if your planning on getting the teachers edition, I would JUST get that as this book is exactly like the teachers edition with the exception of having the answers on the pages. The answers will not show up on the copy machine if you make copies of each work page as your child needs them. NO need to buy both, wish there was a review saying this (or possibly I missed it if there was one) but that would have been helpful.
I absolutely LOVE this workbook and the textbook to which it accompanies. The material within is thorough and complies with the state standards in your area . The graphics and information/questions within are thought provoking and helpful in acquiring the necessary skills that students in this grade level must be familiar with. I highly recommend this workbook in addition to the textbook for your child! After reading over this workbook, I feel as smart as a fifth grader!
We use this workbook along with the Grade 5 Science textbook to home school our grade four son. In general, we like what it offers. Some pages are rather rote, with True/false or matching questions, but these are balanced by very good "process skills practice" sections that ask a student to hypothesize, predict, make models, draw conclusions, identify and control variables, and best of all, infer - in other words, to truly use his brain to consider a problem rather than filling in a blank. We do not find the Graphic organizers particularly useful but on the whole, it's a good workbook. I also like that each page is clearly linked to certain pages in the text so we know what goes with what, without having to do a scavenger hunt to find that. All in all, I can recommend this book.-- Nadine Slavinski, author of Lesson Plans To Go: Hands-on Learning for Active and Home Schooling Families - see Lesson Plans To Go: Hands-on Learning for Active and Home Schooling Families
Seems like a decent workbook, but isn't an exact match to our textbook. This is my fault because I accidentally ordered the wrong edition. Still, there's some overlap, so we will use the parts of it that do correspond to our textbook.
Not what I was anticipating for a workbook. I am not a teacher and this has lots of experiments to perform in the book. I was more looking for a workbook that reinforced the concepts of the textbook.
This is the book I need to go with the hard cover science book for 5 th grade. The 4 th grade book goes over basic info and this set finishes the subjects by hoing into kore detail. So glad I looked at these.
