I purchased this for my high 2nd grader and I was not impressed. The stories are interesting and simple but the questions asked stray too far from the story and even I (I am an elem. teacher) couldn't figure out where a child could find the correct answer. On top of that - the answer key is not correct. I purchased Nonfiction reading comprehension - science and Nonfiction reading comprehension - social studies(each a book) by teacher created resources for 4th grade and was very happy with them. I also got them from . Hope this helps someone save their money.
These books are a great way to teach reading comprehension to our children. We are homeschooling our children for this academic school year and have really enjoyed the stories that the children read. They are not only interesting but full of fun facts about all sorts of different subjects. Our boys have finished grades 1 through 4 and I will continue to buy the upper grade books as well.
I am a third grade teacher and I love this book. I use it as a center during my guided reading block. I will say that I created a short answer page sheet to go with the multiple choice questions. Multiple choice alone was not enough to push my students. I gave it five stars because of the passages. I thought the passages were interesting and on the correct reading level. I also purchased this book for second graders and first graders for my lower level readers.
I am homeschool mom and purchased these for my daughters 3rd grade year. We have previously been using abeka which I am still a huge fan of. However, I wanted something that provided a little more knowledge for my daughter in other areas than English and Math. I think these books are great.
Book was missing the first 8 pages. The cover makes the book look like it is in color but all of the inside pages are black and white. Also the 9th page was completely written in.
Item exactly as described and shipped promptly. Great for helping students who are struggling in reading. A good addition to my collection of materials to use in my classroom.
Great stories, provides a little variety from all the reading comprehension books out there that are fiction. It is a little on the thin/small side.
