This is a great resource that I have been using in small guided reading groups to teach close reading and text coding or marking. Each passage focuses on specific skills for the text marking such as Main Idea, Compare/Contrast, and Cause and Effect. The questions that go along with the text reinforces vocabulary, using context clues, and other additional "evidence based" skills. The passages are challenging but grade appropriate. I have shared it with others who are enjoy using it too. I highly recommend this book.
The passages were interesting and the questions gave students the challenge to infer and to think, but the front page keys have some missing signal words. Some of the background information required for understanding is st too high of a levelfor grade level understanding.
Perfect for close reading, interesting content, good vocabulary usage, and very good comprehension practice!
This is ideal for the 3rd grade classroom and the common core standards as well as testing! My team using these and loves the growth we have seen in our students.
