The book material is overall good, but it goes very often, if not full pages, of research examples and some "possible" interactions or "studies are investigating mechanisms of action', that it looses its main purpose; to teach you the core characteristics of the drugs and implications in anesthesia, evidence based, information. If you are doing Research in the Pharmacology & Physiology in Anesthesia, then is a book I would recommend. If you are becoming a Anesthesiologist or Nurse Anesthetist, then look for another book, or get the handbook version of this book. The handbook version is more straight to the point without all the stories and "possible", "one scenario found..." "data has been collecting..." "theories are still under investigation" and any other paragraph of that kind will not be part of the Handbook, Straight forward info.
With material this detailed and, at times, difficult, a different organization would be helpful. This text didn't seem to flow or have discernible sections for review. There were no chapter summaries or review questions. There is a companion handbook that some of my classmates found to help flesh out key information; however, at this cost, I shouldn't need another text to augment my learning. Not even close to my favorite anesthesia text.
Dr. Stoelting retired, unfortunately, and it ended an era. The page immediately following Dr. Stoelting's forward to this edition amounts to a mea culpa, and rightly so. It is sad when the new authors need to start their project with what amounts to an apology and plea for help. An exerpt: "The usual dose of succinylcholine is 100 mg" - this after appropriately quoting the accurate 1988 research as 0.3 mg/kg. 100 mg for what? a 40 kg patient, 150 kg? I am sorry to see Dr. Stoelting go.
brand new!
Good book
Difficult to navigate. I found other pharm books much more helpful
