I have been checking out this book for some time. Being a writer I knew this would add to my resources. But the price was $20, I did not want to spend that much money. And then a shorter version came out cheaper, done deal. I get all the resources at half the cost. Yes this exceeded my expectations. Of course never let's you down.
Even considering this book focuses on horror, science fiction, and other genres in which violence is more common--and I have no problem with reasonable amounts of violence in books, movies, video games, etc.--this book contains certain phrases regarding weapons, death, etc. that are too disturbing for my tastes. A disclaimer would not be inappropriate, considering the gruesome imagery. Further, the book is very short. Considering I got it for free via the Prime Unlimited thing, it wasn't a bad deal, but I wouldn't pay more than a dollar for this little pamphlet. It seemed more of a platform for the author's other books than an attempt at a useful, reasonably well-encompassing text.To the book's credit, and this is the only reason I gave it three stars instead of two, I should say that some of the phrases, regarding color, were useful in jump-starting my imagination, but you can find those elsewhere without having to skip past gruesome imagery.
This book is intended to help you as an author, whether you are just starting out or a huge success, to kick start your imagination. Let's face it all authors have times when the words are just not flowing. Well, this book and the other How To Books by Jackson Dean Chase are intended to kick your thought process into high gear. Jackson has a way to take one example and create a lot of different ways to say it. All will be original and grab your reader. Take a chance on this short sampler and see what this book has to offer. You'll be surprised at how quickly the words are flowing again. Jackson Dean Chase's imagination is second to none. You won't be disappointed.
I really used this a lot, even in the first thirty minutes after I bought it. Having something handy that I can flip through, even just to spark a new phase or way of saying something, is invaluable. Thank you Chase
Although this book is just a sample, giving hints of content covered by other full novels focusing on each area, it is a great help for authors, regardless the writer's block. It provides numerous ways how to describe same scenes with each time different words. I especially liked the bonus tips and exercises to fire your own imagination. This is basically a practice book for everyone struggling with words and expressions or lacking the skill to add emotions to your story.A great, great phrase book. You should definitely go through. Even such details as colors might pepper you story if you choose the right phrase.Recommended to every writer, regardless the genre. Many phrases are generally applicable and the tips are really helpful.
This short sampler is full of clever descriptions for authors. Just flipping through it gets the creative juices flowing. I found the emotional and weather descriptions really useful. Some of the descriptions of injuries were a bit too gory for me, but I can see how some writers would want them. All in all. this is a handy little guide.
I found some of the tags very 'ficspirational'. I have ideas for three new stories and a way past a block on one already started.
This book had all the elements needed to write fiction. I feel that you can write a book on what tools given to do it.
