I heard about this book through Libbie's recent guest appearance at the Self Publishing Podcast. As I was needing to write a better back cover blurb, or pitch as she called it, I decided to spend the 99 cents to get the book since it really wasn't covered well in the episode. This book is short, very short, maybe 50 pages if it was printed, making it a quick read. Just an hour or two, really, less if you, like me, end up skimming a lot. I feel for a book this size, it's a good idea to know about what it covers, so let's look at that first. The first four pages** are a reminder that as an indie writer, once you are done writing the book and moving to selling, it becomes a product. If you haven't read much other stuff, especially if you haven't read Write. Publish. Repeat. then it's good to read (but WPR is better for that whole topic). Then six pages where the author goes on at length about why pitches are hard to write and how all good stories are a like. After one page letting you know it only works if you "do it right" and noting the process has to be modified if you're dealing with multi-main character works, we get to the five steps, which are summarized in three pages, then eight more pages going through each of the steps core elements to give them a little more discussion. Again, all good info and I did find it useful. Finally we have just over two pages telling you to build a skeleton, which really just takes you through the five stakes again then several pages of things not to do before going back to flush out the skeleton (to me this felt reversed. Get the first draft before you revise, you know?).
