Dixon, MPA, Ph.D., FHIMSS, is the Assistant Professor, Department of Epidemiology, Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health; and the Center for Biomedical Informatics, Regenstrief Institute, Inc., Indianapolis, IN. He is a proven research scientist with a primary research focus on the use of information and computing systems to improve public health practice and clinical outcomes. The author has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles focusing on interoperability and public health. Dixon is involved with the Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE) and HIE efforts at the state and national initiatives. He is also instrumental in the development and implementation of health information systems; tools supporting LOINC, automated reporting of notifiable conditions, and large databases.Other contributors in the design and development of this book are experts in the field of Informatics, HIE, research, public health, academia, and other areas in healthcare. The purpose of this book is “to cover the landscape of HIE for those in health care administration, health communication and information technologies (ICT), and public health” (16).This book is divided into six parts that offer readers the understanding of the different aspects of HIEs.
